Summary

Description This image of the Victoria Crater was taken by the HiRISE camera on board Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). The crater is located at Meridiani Planum near the Mars equator. Most striking, however, is the small shiny object located at roughly the 10 o'clock position on the rim of the crater. The object is the Mars Exploration Rover (MER), Opportunity. The small vehicle has traveled over 5 miles (9 km) since January, 2004 to reach this unexpected destination.
